摘要:
A control of the initial nucleation-growth stage contributes in attaining targeted properties by the final material. In this connection, mixing is considered to be a key process in tailoring the mean particle size and polydispersity. It becomes more and more critical when the particle reactivity increases and size decreases, which is a general case of a sol-gel process. Considering micro-mixing in a macroscopic fluid flow with high Reynolds number, the characteristic time of the physical mixing (phys) can become smaller than that of chemical reactions (chem). In such case, the reaction medium attains so-called point-like reaction conditions, which lead to the smallest size and narrowest size distribution of nanoparticles. This regime corresponds to small Damköhler numbers, Da=phys/chem1.
In present lecture, an impact of the micro-mixing phenomenon on pure (TiO2, ZrO2), mixed (TixZr1-xO2) and composite (Ar/Au-TiO2) nanoparticles nucleation in a sol-gel process will be discussed. The nucleation stage is achieved in a T-mixer device with two input reactant fluids containing metal oxide precursors and water are injected at high Reynolds numbers between 103 and 104 enabling strongly turbulent flow conditions (up to the cavitation regime). The particle size was monitored by in-situ DLS/SLS method and confirmed by ex-situ TEM analysis. The numerical simulations of the flow behaviour were carried out in order to access the fundamental characteristics of the mixing process.
The adequate design of the reactor permits a control of the particles size and agglomeration state, which is a challenging task in nanotechnology and nanomaterials. Based on the size-selected nanoparticles, examples of functional coatings, ultra-porous monoliths and organic-inorganic hybrids will be given for application in catalysis, photocatalysis, plasma-catalysis and photonics. Such bulk solids possess nano-size specific properties and high specific surface area of the active phase.
