讲座摘要:
Metamaterials---artificial electromagnetic mediathat are structured on the subwavelength scale---were initially suggested forthe realisation of negative-index media, and later they became a paradigm forengineering electromagnetic space and control¬ling propagation of waves.However, applications of metamaterials inoptics are limited due to inherent losses in metals employed for therealisation of artificial optical magnetism. Recently, we observe the emergenceof a new field of all-dielectric Mie-resonant metaphotonics aiming at themanipulation of strong optically-induced electric and magnetic Mie-typeresonances in dielectric and semiconductor nanostructures with relatively highrefractive index. Unique advantages of dielectric resonant nanostructures overtheir metallic counterparts are low dissipative losses and the enhancement ofboth electric and magnetic fields that provide competitive alternatives forplasmonic structures including optical nanoantennas, efficient biosensors,passive and active metasurfaces, and functional metadevices. This talk will summarize the recent advancesin all-dielectric Mie-resonant metaphotonics including active photonics as wellas the recently emerged fields of biosensing and topological photonics.

Yuri Kivshar教授,澳大利亚科学院院士、澳大利亚国立尊龙凯时物理与工程研究院非线性物理中心主任,是非线性物理学、非线性光子学和超材料物理学领域的国际领军人物,全球“高被引物理学家”之一。Yuri Kivshar院士首次提出“非线性超材料”新概念,开创了一个全新的物理学领域。他在光学系统、光孤子和光漩涡中的非线性局域模式研究中取得了开创性成果,在等离激元光子和超材料中的离散系统和非线性效应定位研究做出了突出贡献,在Nature、Science及其子刊(15篇)、Reviews of Modern Physics (3篇,IF=44.982)、Physical Review Letters(83篇)和Physics Reports (IF=28.295)等国际知名期刊上发表了九百余篇高水平论文,h指数为122,引用次数高达七万余次。Yuri Kivshar院士曾获英国皇家物理学会哈里·梅西奖章、俄罗斯光学学会A.A. Lebedev奖章、乌克兰国家科学技术奖、澳大利亚科学院莱尔奖章等多项荣誉,是美国光学学会、美国物理学会、英国物理学会、澳大利亚物理协会等多个国际学术组织的会员。
